The Purge Minimalist Poster

It's ironic that the first installment in the franchise was pretty much just a generic home invasion thriller with the concept of the yearly Purge as set dressing. It's especially boggling since, logically, attempting a home invasion on Purge Night would be a suicidally stupid thing to do. The rule of "all crime is legal during the Purge" is a double-edged sword; our hypothetical home Invaders would be breaking into someone's house on the one night of the year that the homeowner(s) could deal with them as they see fit and not concern themselves with whether or not their actions conform to the legal definition of self-defense. Best case scenario, the homeowners kill the intruders the instant they catch them in their house; worst case scenario, the sky's the limit on what nastiness they could subject the intruders to before they've had their fill and finish them off. Even in real life in the United States, attempting such crimes is a throw of the dice and sometimes you roll snake eyes.
